Darkened Feathers (Angels competition)
An angel held me close through the darkest of my nights
Unwilling to let loose upon me
A single burning drop of that most potent venom
So one wing wrapped close around me as she slept
To hold me in safekeeping
From grimmest evils of a thought
Dreaming dreams of sweetest thought
Infinity seemed to me to be
The glint of her almost unopened eye
If my sight could only see
Through glinting veils of an infinite gaze
Galaxies of violet and orange hue
Set in the diamond of a sweeping vector sky
Each twinkle of a star
Would sing such sweet lullabies
If only my ears could be made to hear
No child would ever wake in the night to persist in sorrow
If a voice could but form that sweet melody that lurks inside her glinting eye
But alas my mortal lips refuse to speak of what is not
My eyes are yet lashed and bound
They see an inability to perceive
Two futures wings that join as one
That leave to drift among their wake
All that my eyes are bound to see
Is what is left to drift among their wake
The floating feathers of a plumage darkened with regret
Unwilling to let loose upon me
A single burning drop of that most potent venom
So one wing wrapped close around me as she slept
To hold me in safekeeping
From grimmest evils of a thought
Dreaming dreams of sweetest thought
Infinity seemed to me to be
The glint of her almost unopened eye
If my sight could only see
Through glinting veils of an infinite gaze
Galaxies of violet and orange hue
Set in the diamond of a sweeping vector sky
Each twinkle of a star
Would sing such sweet lullabies
If only my ears could be made to hear
No child would ever wake in the night to persist in sorrow
If a voice could but form that sweet melody that lurks inside her glinting eye
But alas my mortal lips refuse to speak of what is not
My eyes are yet lashed and bound
They see an inability to perceive
Two futures wings that join as one
That leave to drift among their wake
All that my eyes are bound to see
Is what is left to drift among their wake
The floating feathers of a plumage darkened with regret
