Upon A Darkened Path

There are no guarantees upon a darkened path
And usually no parades when you come back
from exploring all those places
that hide the knowledge of your Self

You feel the ground a little firmer
and your footsteps a bit more sure
But the only one who celebrates with you is you
They alone and no more

When this new You attempts at times
to express in flight
in words as lovely as waves upon the shore
It is, most often, discarded,
overlooked,
unindulged.
Or, at worst, and most frequently,
ignored.

You wave your hands at passing ships
(your plans as scattered flotsam
salvaged to other Captain's means)
But the breath they hold that
would keep your head above the cold, splashing indifference
is not to be released

Fret not, though, traveler
Let those ships pass without you in this constant night
For you are safe along this shore and there is always
your darkened path
Beseeching you to share your time.
