The Deep Dark Lake And The Shallow Pale Girl
My beer stained journal
two joints
and the pier
lake St.Clair
the choppy waves hit the rocks
I hit the joint
I sit at the end of the dock
the water rages
droplets hit my face
she feels me
she always has
me and Lake St.Clair
we have a lot in common
deep in some parts
shallow in others
she mimics my emotions
if I'm calm
she is too
if I'm upset
her waves beat against the shore
rocking boats and all that stand in her way
tonight we are nervous
the choppy waves relentless
no boats out anywhere
just me
her
my journal, two joints
my whole life she has been a part of
first time I had sex was here at the pier
first time I ever got high
first boat ride
first fish I ever caught
I almost died here in third grade
this lake is my constant
she has always been here
she will always be
here I watch the sky
the stars gleam
its the place to watch the Perseid meteor shower
this lake knows me better than anyone
I run on her beach
I sit on her rocks
on her docks
I walk the pier
everything confusing seems clear
I breath in her fresh air
my tears have become one with her waters
I am a part of her and she is a part of me
every year she takes many lives
she has spared mine
for one reason or another I'm drawn here
the world is different when standing on her shores
everything and nothing
nothing and everything
I need this body of water
I feel this body of water
I am a body of water
two joints
and the pier
lake St.Clair
the choppy waves hit the rocks
I hit the joint
I sit at the end of the dock
the water rages
droplets hit my face
she feels me
she always has
me and Lake St.Clair

I get it, nikkimoe! I wrote a similar poem about the sea, but I like yours better, with the personal details.
Thanks for sharing.

This is beautiful Nikki, I can literally feel your sentimental flowing over with the waves. Almost like I can see her through your eyes. Amazing, haunting, lovely.

Lake St. Clair? We had one of those near my old stomping grounds (I am originally from Michigan)-- and the pic looks somewhat familiar (though technically not from that part of town).
Anyhoo, excellent write here. As obvious by my comments above, it even hit me as a tad nostalgic. I am a river/creek person myself, as we had several nearbout that were like the greatest playground ever. Mama nature has all of the coolest toys.
Much enjoyed the read.

I was born and raised in Avon Township (now called Rochester Hills), and I was living there again just prior to enlisting. Been all over that state on the in-betweens though-- Grand Blanc, Port Huron, Clinton Twp, Lake Orion.

Nikki, it's only 5:30am... to try to explain would be to babble so I won't. Nothing said would do it justice anyway.

I too wondered if this was Michigan. Uley took me up there for our Honeymoon, and I fell in love with the place. Far more beautiful than I imagined. You captured it well :)
Much enjoyed this read :)

Michigan isn't as bad as the media paints it. I've been a lot of places and always find myself back here and longing for the lakes! Thanks MaggieG

Written in the moment, and will live on forever! I love it, no other feeling like being humbly inspired by a large mass of water. Great piece.
