A Farewell Conversation
- You're so quiet.
I know.
- What's on your mind?
Only one thing, my friend,
how to leave the world
behind, trying to think of
a way out of this place, to
make my escape, to abandon
this race...
- How will you do it?
Of that, I'm not sure, but
give me a day, a week, or
perhaps a bit more; but I
will come up with something,
of this I am sure...
- Where will you go? With whom will you be?
Alone I will be, in
a much better place;
where the water is clean
and the grass is so green,
where birds sing their songs on
the back of a breeze.
Where there's a sky so blue
with clouds pearl white,
the sun guards the day, a
canopy of stars, the night...
- But won't you be lonely with no one to see?
Not in the least...
I'll finally be free.
I know.

WOW! What a message?!
Amazing how ink can convey every emotions imaginable!
I could see the clean water and green grass, I could hear the birds singing. A clear vivid picture, inked nicely!

Thank you very much. I owe a portion of my picture to my favorite jazz artist, Louis B Armstrong and his song "What a Wonderful World".

Thank you very much. What I enjoy most about this site is it gives me the chance to read and see other styles, and to experiment with them and mine.

Sweet freedom (and the price of it)..
Interesting conversation, cj. Strong images - I think we all long for that place.
Pssst, first line, it should read "quiet" not "quite."

One of the many conversations I have with myself. It can get pretty interesting at times. As long as I'm not yelling at myself, I guess I'm okay. Thank you for catching my oopps. Fixed it.

The vivid details described in the responses are breathtaking, almost overshadowing the morbid tone of this conversation. Then again, "I'll finally be free" is hardly a maudlin frame of mind. Intriguing mix of finality and anticipation!

thank you very much for your comments and interpretation. I tried to write it so it could mean either "I" wish to just leave this rat of a society and go live on a deserted island somewhere, or to check out of life itself. I am glad the details and tone had its desired effect.

Such a sad but beautiful write. I imagine many think this when they have had enough of this world and plan on leaving it.
A wonderful pen Cj and very touching.

I often have existential conversations with myself (and, thankfully, I tend to win any arguments that come from them). Thank you very much for reading, and I'm glad you liked it.

Sounds like you want to be in a tropical paradise...come to our island:) peace can be found under palm trees with the sea sun and sand. I relate with your poem, cjflier. Good write.
