the box of tears 2

Dahista Moon blinked when he saw the silver table knife. He ignored it and proceeded to view the other contents. Envelopes with worn out edges from being re-opened several times. He removed the letters from the box and placed them on the couch. He continued to scan the box, there were pictures. Some of Scarlet, others of people he didn't know. There was an old t-shirt as well.. With stains that could have been red blood once upon a time now brown with age. There were rocks, cards, sea shells. Two small black diaries, A tiny teddy bear with razor blades in its back,a wooden spoon, or rather what remained of it.He looked back at the knife.. The reached for it.He heard her sharply inhale,as though she had been praying he would focus his attention elsewhere and he went right for the heart of it.
''why do you have this?''
He looked at the knife... The handle had a rose branch branded into it. The other end had several colors across it. The way stainless steel would look after it had been burnt and left to cool, the edges were black.. Shades of blue and bronze blended towards the center. He felt her begin to shiver. He looked at her hands, they formed a fist. She was breathing just a bit harder, and faster. eyes red from the refusal of letting herself cry. She always wanted to portray an image of strength. So she held the flood back till she exploded.
''when i was in my pre teens. My father had a habit of placing that knife on the stove for it to heat up. I'd be kneeling somewhere near watching it turn red. He said i told lies. Lots of them. That was his way of fixing me.'' a tear rolled down her cheek. ''he would wait till it glowed red. The switch the burner off, he'd ask me for a truth i had already told yet he perceived as a lie. Then he'd cover the handle with a kitchen cloth, hold my head back and find a way to burn my tongue.'' Scarlet clenched her teeth, rocking back and forth at the memory. She spoke through clenched teeth. ''he'd call me a liar... Say i'm useless and good for nothing, ungrateful stupid girl.''
