Makeesha

The moon shone bright and pale against the dark landscape below.
A figure darting between the trees cathes the eye.
Searching.
Yearning.
Hear her cry-
Feel the urgency.
See how she moves,
Her paws clipping the ground
Barely touching the frost
As she darts and weaves.
Howling.
Whimpering.
Sense her anguish-
Feel her pain.
Through the underbrush, moss and leaves.
See her white muzzle sniff the ground
Looking for that long awaited smell.
Waiting for her mate
That will fill the hole in her heart
And make her smile once again.
Someone to curl up with
In the long winter nights.
Some to dance with
In the hot summer rain.
She catches a scent
And runs as quick as her haunches will take her,
Not wanting to lose the scent as she did so many years ago.
She lets out a cry
And rejoices in the howl,
The answer back
She's been waiting for.
He's there
As he's always been
But this time
There are no shadows -
No faded words
Or secret codes.
She launches herself at him,
Her white coat gleaming
Like a lost sattellite
Amongst the night.
He greets her with a gentle lick
And nuzzles her soft white fur
Whimpering apologies
For lost time and memories.
He vows to make it up to her,
She vows to show what sweet memories can be,
They promise to never let go
And keep the chain to fate
And forever be lovers
And most of all
Mates.
