Why Must I have A Heart?

Below the skin there are thorns around the heart
leave them there
a reminder of your art

How you pierced my common sense
left my wandering in the cold
Never in a million lifetimes
would I believe anyone could be so cold

"Foolish heart, hear me calling
stop before you start falling
Foolish heart heed my warning
you've been wrong before, don't be wrong anymore"

The valley of darkness is where I reside
stops all the light and lets me hide
Rapture in pain my consummate glee
grown accustomed to the anguish so let it be

The guilty remain to play their games
I know that I will never be the same
Stuck on the confines of the same page
so if looking for evidence let me be the gauge

"Since you love me ..... then you snub me,
I prayed you'd put the world above me,
And now I ... black and blue
Since I fell for you"
