I just wanted to say
I miss you
and I wonder
do you miss me too?

It’s an empty co-dependence
now a lopsided table and all the whiskey
falls your way
though I wouldn’t mind wandering
between your ears and taking a swig
of your thoughts
that hide behind your haunted blue eyes

We’ve faded and I know it
I’ve faded and I evaporate like dust
into violent lungs
to be exhaled like cigarette smoke
the butt stubbed out on my hipbone
in lusty betrayal

And I wonder who’ll hit me first
exactly how many words can I use for
maximum impact
in an effort to break the walls
of your defences
though we’ve been there and done that
and I’m tired
I don’t have the heart to stab you
with the reverse psychology of my love

I’m lonely and my rib cage creaks
for the touch of your hand
for your breath on my neck
for the warmth of your words that lie dormant
in your smoke stained throat

I just wanted to say
