BRIDEGROOM ASSURED

(Not autobiographical. I set this in an earlier generation.)

Apart from a youthful, clumsy session with a whore,
I had not ‘had’ a woman in my life before.
When I proposed to my future wife.
I thought “Get more sorted about facts of life.”

After a clear test ruled out any VD,
I had my doctor in front of me,
Answering questions, solving doubt,
Non-judgementally having it out.

All the things in surgery he said
Left me surer of my part in marriage bed,
Able to take in hand my spouse
Making love in hotel room or house.

She was surprised how little it hurt
And praised my part as I put on my shirt
As together we faced a bright new day
After mutual fun-time in the hay.
