It took her

what seemed like a

long time to recover

her senses as she

peered at the beach

which lead immediately

to the forest intersperced

with tall coconut palms

bending in the wind their

blades cracking clattering

clacking:  she walked above

the high-water mark the ground

was level forming an upper shelf

before the start of the forest:

she kept stepping on crabs their

shells squashed splashed wetly

under her tennis shoes:  each

time that happened her skin

shivered her mind began making

images in the moon-shadowed trees:

walking this way and that she

intently watched the great giant

darkish walls of the forest:  her

ears straining to hear any sound at all.
