The Undertow
I'm swimming like hell towards the shore of enlightenment
there's a white shark on my tail tearing at my flesh
the undertow seeks to take me under before I can be eaten alive.
Being dragged under the abyss seems much more peaceful
but i've decided to fight off this demon of a shark
that I can already feel eating my guts reaching my heart I realise it's better to to be torn into
feeling the pain of it and embracing it.
Slowly drowning is what i've been doing with my drinking
numbing the pain of the shark that has been slowly devouring me
calling on my warrior spirit now I face the great white and his dead eyes seeing my life mirrored there.
I don't like what I see so it's up to me to change it
he looks back at me with a fierce glare
setting a fire in my soul to fight
stand up to the loneliness I feel and the pain that cloys at me
with it's clammy grip.
I won't drown in the abyss or be eaten alive by pain
facing my image in the mirror I break the preconceived notions
of what I should have been and am
I will reach elightenment my soul will learn the lessons I find so painful.
