More of me
than my marriage
yet you're only a familiar stranger

We share
that we know we're alone
in this prison
and that an air shaft
attaches our cells

you tap continuous on your window sill
probably S.O.S. in Morse code
but I hear sonnet
song
another soul

I hear myself in love

I draw lavender
sage and sandalwood
on legal paper
straighten a staple
to short the circuit in my cells socket
and consecrate the will of scent into smoke
hoping you catch my signal

tomorrow is library
I will tear out paged heart of lily
iris and lotus

My ears have become antennae
broadcast your affection through echo
quell the violent riot of white noise
with your violet tone so subtle
that lesser senses can't notice

Hum for me my dear
a tune that unties noose
from sheets
