A well done, subtle at times, poem.  When you say:  "I've been where you have been", though, throws me a bit.  I'm not talking of The St. Louis Cardinals. lol.  Your ability at consistant description is nothing but remarkable.  "I've been on the edge of terror before" sounds quite general, though, to my eyes and ears.  What terror?  You are a marvelous poet and, despite my (probably) unhelpful comments, have an insight and thought-posture I've rarely found.  Please, Oh please, keep up the fine work.  Thank you for sharing this poem with me.

First of all. I want to thank you for responding to my poem.  I always enjoy feedback.  This poem was about having ompassion for and relating to someone regardless of their age.  

"I've been where you have been" is the same as "been there...done that" if that helps

"I've been on the edge of terror before"...the young lady who inspired this poem looked just as I described her including the cautious part which I couldn't help but pick up on...actually, she seemed as though she had seen much of the dark side of life...

Does that make the poem easier to understand?  I hope so.
