Awakening
I found you
with your head
in books
and in the museum
looking for knowledge.
I saw you
in the early morning
waiting in line after line
and then shopping
for things only I can give you
wisdom
love
appreciation
satisfaction
Instead you jumped
into the ocean
and only needed me
when the waves overwhelmed you.
Each breath became a battering gasp
and still you struggled.
Here I am!
Slip into me.
See me as nothing.
Know me as everything.
I am the worst moment
and the most rotten fruit.
I am everything distasteful
and I am your own lack of self-trust.
Sleep in my shadow.
Rest and listen.
The trees whisper my name:
Thankfulness.
