- I Am a Princess Still -

Part One: Wild Nightfall

I strode across the grasslands, never looking back,
My eyes cast on hills and mountains tree-crowned.
Behind me lay the ruins of a life frightful and black…
I was lost in a wilderness, and seeking to be found.
The skies were shot with blood as afternoon came,
Red and gold, scarlet and sunlit, both fading faster…
As the owls heralded the advent of night’s domain!
I found solace in the darkness, away from disaster.
The evening’s embrace found me across the plains,
At the gates of a circular fortress: with a lofty dome.
The portal was old wood covered in ivy and stains,
And I could not imagine who might call this a home.
I knocked on the doors, not expecting a real reply,
But the gates opened so wide, of their own accord.
I heard voices, within, and across the moonlit sky…
Night birds called, each uttering an unspoken word.

Part Two: Lost Fortress

Within the fortress there was a surprising opulence,
And a roaring hearth at which an elfin pair relaxed…
In contrast with that humble façade of the entrance!
One was a young girl, the other: a man with an axe.
The man seemed not to see me, the girl saw much…
As I called out to them, greeting them as a traveler.
But, the man seemed not to hear me, and as such…
As he was silent, the girl’s welcoming did gaily stir.
She led me by the hand up spiral stairs ascending…
To a platform around the dome, and into shadows,
Wherein was this dark hallway seemingly unending.
My nose, detected the scent of flowery meadows…
And the girl led me in silence, through that corridor.
Her emerald green gown sparkled like bright gems,
Seemingly softer even than her face’s elfin features!
Her curly golden hair whence illumination so stems.

Part Three: Self-Revelation

I could not look in the child’s eyes, as we walked…
For some presence of her spirit prevented any view.
It was enough that as we strode onward we talked,
And I found in her company compassion most true.
Where does this hallway lead, I asked her, curious!
Through your heart, she told me, and I knew fear…
For, this place was as familiar, as it was mysterious.
Empty, except for her presence that was ever near!
Love fills you, she told me, and I am that embodied.
I am your compassion, your innocence: your soul…
This, is your self-revelation, your thought and deed,
I come not to reveal, but to in the darkness console.
So I knew her to be all that is best within my nature!
I asked her what it is she wanted from me that hour.
Simply accept me she said, accept the fair and pure,
The light within the shadow; the fire, and the power!

Part Four: Hot Awakening

I emerged from that hallway attired in a green gown,
My hair was golden and my eyes like twin sapphires.
Unto me the secrets of my true self had been shown,
The fullness of my fears, my hopes, and my desires…
My gown was darker than the child within me wore,
But my heart was, after all, never wholly a little girl’s.
I was ready to embrace everything that lay in store…
To face my future: across all of life’s countless worlds.
The man at the hearth bid me a welcome at long last.
I rushed into his arms, and knew he would love me…
For I was his princess, having let go of my cold past.
I was ready to accept true love as my fairest destiny!
As we made love, by the hearth, the fortress broke…
Stone cracking and breaking away from cold mortar,
Until from the grasp of dream, my spirit soon awoke.
I am a princess still, and in me all those emotions stir!
