Enough Is Enough

I have declared my independence
not sure if anyone cares
But my conscience is relieved
my soul no longer bare
 
If took the partying in Charlotte
to make me face my fears
I wonder if my parents felt the same
years back were they in tears
 
Ignored has been the fight against poverty
almost since that night in June 1968
A night my dad was jetting to the Ambassador Hotel
fate has it he got there too late
 
The current president loves his nukes
I just hope that for his family's sake
They are nowhere around a reactor
when an earthquake starts to shake
 
So too he embraced off-shore drilling
if not for a spill would they be on the west coast?
I guess more selective in that issue he is now
for that should we give him a toast?
 
Yes he looks at different sources
more visionary then Bush I can say
But remember that one radiation leak
can ruin more then just one day
 
What about the arms trade world-wide
not a peep from cool Barack
Have anything to do with deep pocketed donors
who might have a drop in stocks?
 
This guy wouldn't even go to bat  
for an extension of gun control already in law
Might be better for re-election to keep silent
or at the very least place the issue on a see-saw
 
The prison-industrial complex grows without end
spend more on incarceration then education
Surely this must be a sin
 
For as Jesse tried to tell us
create four balls on the bright side of life
Rather then slam three strikes at a convict
seals paths looking grim and clouded with dooming strife
 
Never been built a prison that wasn't filled
my favorite professor taught
Slamming even pot-heads behind bars
really great what taxpayer money has bought
 
The culmination of a Democratic Party's blood thirst
could be seen in the red and white signs
Obama got the all evil Bin Laden  
now how does that play in the mind
 
For while I am relieved he is gone
is that all we can be proud of
US the biggest military
that will sure fill other nations with love
 
Maybe naive I am for thinking that Robert
would feel the way I do
Despite his brother's affinity for Obama
other things this president must do
 
Those things that may not get tv coverage
yet with a hunger for justice, issues to tote
The children, the poor, the environment  
battles to have even if they don't win electoral votes
