I want to say we never did you wrong
but you know we’d both be lying
and yet I can say with all sincerity
that I never took your man to bed

I felt like the secret keeper between your lies
and when he called around that day
I was too drunk not to give you up
if I’d only had something to give away

no time can justify a year’s worth of talking
about bad movies and insomnia
not quite the scandal you had in mind
is it?

lonely voices have a way of sinking beneath lonely skins
and although I can’t justify a year’s worth of just talking
I can’t help but feel you’d be slighted
by the fact that he secretly confided his worries in me

and that I secretly confided some of your secrets
in him
