What Is This Pain?

Those last kisses we shared
were some of the best
you taught me so much
I will never love you less
and I will cherish the memory
of every touch
that left goosebumps on my skin

but I cannot fathom this feeling
that squeezes at
my aching heart
what is this pain?
I cannot comprehend it
and it is tearing me apart

I want to hold you
forever and ever

but I see that won't happen...

I see those blue eyes
with their golden tint
I imagine your soft hair
under my fingertips
it threatens
to kill me
this pain

what is it?
I feel as if I'm trapped
in the freezing rain
no warmth
no comfort

the shock of it all
has left me broken
unable to battle
