Mothers and Daughters

What a mysterious, wonderful miracle to behold
That special bond between mothers and daughters

For within them each lie the past, the present, and the future
This connection with the never ending circle of life and death

As a mere man, it is truly profound and humbling to behold
Having witnessed this evolution, blossoming in my own family

From the early years of a young mother and her little girl
Wearing similiar outfits and looking so damn cute

To the tumultous years of adolescence and independence
When I would retreat to the safety of some neutral corner

Followed by the still challenging years of young adulthood
When the goal was for my daughter to be anyone other than my wife

To the warmth and contentment of recent years
With the birth of my grandchildren and the undeclared truce

As if my wife and daughter have now found a place, unthreatened
A fitting role that they can each comfortably call their own

With the epic conflict now over, I smile and shed a tear
Knowing that the two ladies I love most in this world are lovingly bonded once again
