cleaning buildings
in the
united states
of america
and tonight
he's at the office
in the
united states
where I work
and he's vacuuming
and emptying
my waste basket
and he's earning
u.s. dollars
and paying taxes
and because of
the massive u.s.
federal debt
the tax from that beer
he bought at lunch
today is just now
going to pay
for the u.s. sponsored training of the salvadoran police
that tortured and killed his wife and two children

This poem hits hard. In just a few lines you said it all. You're amazing.

As I was reading I thought it was a bit formal and clinical and then all the pieces slot into alignment for that superb ending.

Loath to admit it this piece speaks an absolute truth(I have witnessed it)that many do not want to see or accept. Too raw, great piece.

Wow this is really heavy hitting because its true. Reminds me of an arguement I had with someone on experienceproject, they were talking about obamacare and how its going to force religious institutions to pay taxes on contraceptives and abortions. My arguement was I dont get to choose where my tax dollars go so why should they have a right to evade taxes? As if they are better than other people. I cant say well this year my tax dollars are going to the starving children of africa lol so religious institutions shouldnt say well my tax dollars are noy going to pay for this. Lol. Sorry for the rant it just made me think how selfidh we are sometimes when other people have suffered so much more than that! I think we have lost value sadly. Nice poem reflecting on what living today is like a very harsh world now.
