enstasy

I always thought having
an out-of-body experience
would kick ass

I thought I’d zoom around
like Casper the Ghost
or something,
sneak a peek in a
locker room or two,
ask Lord Byron
what the hell it was all about
cause a little mayhem,
just because

But you, love,
are the storm within my calm
and you’ve left me
no place to seek shelter
but within you.

So now, I’m floating here,
watching myself
drown in the desert
my almost-corpse arching like some
fucked-up marionette with the
strings attached to the wrong points.

While inside,
my face is turned to your
embrace,
sighing relief,
as you pour yourself
in me through our lips,
drowning me slowly,

just to feel me die against you.

I almost don’t recognize that lady on the ground,
the one coughing up
water on dry land,
as myself
because she succumbs
to stillness
in the midst of the storm,
cataracts forming over
her clear brown eyes

and as she falls silent,
your arms,
strong enough for me to
lean back and
let go in,
circle my misty waist,
your lips touch
the side of my neck,
and my eyes close
in bliss

I always thought having an
out-of-body
experience
would be
fun,
but really,

it's
just
like
touching

you
