to float and fall, like embers fading in the sky

I float upon currents of emptiness
dismembered from the things bind me
to myself.

I arise, a feather, something beautiful
lost the in the acrid landscape of my morning coffee
that sets my heart on anxiety alert.

Anything to escape the beating of your name
deep inside my breast, and the acknowledgment
that your face is the one I’ve craved every day
since the day we met.

I am the only one to blame
for the wistful romantification of hell
that sets my body alight
imprinted within the depths of my self-denial.

You’re here, always with me, as she is
two sides of the same coin
liberating and destructive.

Never ask me why I’ve succumb again
to her hollow laughter and scale rhetoric.
Never ask me why I’ve succumb again
to the dark beauty of your voice.

Just remember me as I was.
When I was beautiful
a fire in the night.
