The Ends of Death

Why then is death
ever a good idea
either in war
or protection
or abortion
or murder
or execution
or assassination
or in thought
or for hire
or through neglect
or in reaction
or in retaliation
or in drunkenness
or by accident
or in passing
or through embargo
or by objectification
or on behalf of religion
or through poor craftsmanship
or by starvation
or by overdose
or by bullying
or through a practical joke
or through forgetfulness
or when just going in for a moment
or to evade hell
or to rush to judgment
or to kill the spirit in ridicule
or the emotions in incest
or the innocence in rape
or the heart in criticism
or the mind in thoughtlessness
or the body through vices
or the integrity by selling out
or childhood by co-opting
or livelihood but hostile takeover
or marriage by denial
or creativity by slavery
or freedom by shame
or capacity by unworthiness
or trust by dishonesty
or loyalty by disclosure
or sanity by exposure
or life by killing
in any form or fashion
such that death
becomes the fashion
of the day
and night becomes
the blanketing reason
for the end
of something sacred:
When is killing ever good?
