Difficult Realizations

Sweet and Trustworthy
With no intention to hurt me
Caring and loving
Always accepting never judging
True and sincere
Always there when I need an ear
Helpful and kind
Definitely deserving of my time

But lately I've been thinking
That maybe we should do some switching
Because we're both at different stages
And want to move at different paces
I'm ready for a future
But you're never really too sure
You're content with how things are
Knowing a hand is not too far
But I want to move on from all of that
It's clear to me that you can't
And it's fine that you're not ready
But I hope you won't hold it against me
That I want to move faster than you can take
And I think staying could be a mistake

It's not your fault that you can't catch up
You're just not at the place that I'm at, love
And instead of going in circles causing further damage
I'd rather leave knowing we were just off balance
I don't like seeing you feel sad or pressured
I want you to have a life to be treasured
And I feel like I'd only bring you down
If I try to force your feet off the ground
I'm ready to fly my dreams into reality
You share the same ones is what you used to tell me
But I can't keep waiting years for you to grow wings
When I'm exhausted from all the hurt and anger it brings

I don't want us to end up hating each other
Leaving this relationship on strictly bad terms
But this love will definitely turn to hate
If you and I keep going on this way
You'll be ready  for more in time and this I know for fact
Maybe when that day comes we'll find our way back
Or maybe we'll both venture deep into the unknown
And find ourselves in a new and better home
Either way, losing you will hurt my heart indeed
But if we can't give each other what we need
Then the truth is we just have to do what's best and end this
Before we become trapped in clouds of everlasting resentment
