Sad Marionette

Like a sad doll upon a shelf that is never touched
she felt ignored and used.
She remembers the days that she was taken
from the shelf all of the time and hugged and kissed.
She felt beautiful and appreciated,
loved and needed.
Now, like the doll, she is collecting dust and
her tears have turned to rust upon her cheeks.
She tried to remember when she became this
old, worn out play thing that nobody truly wanted.
Had she fallen asleep and missed the goodbye
of those who loved her once?
She longs for a new, pretty dress to doll up in.
But sadly no one is interested in her fantasy land
of make believe anymore.
She longs to be the center of someone's world again.
She yearns to hear the words that make her smile form ear to ear.
She is frightened up high on the shelf looking down on her life...
as it sadly passes with each tick of the clock.
Each day her dress wrinkles a bit more,
her smile fades into antique memories,
her eyes grow a dimmer emerald green....
and her tears upon her pale cheeks simply freeze.
