Yellow Ryder tuck

At the tender age of fifteen
i was given a choice
move
or stay
i was fifteen
I chose to stay
Moving meant to another state
staying meant being where i knew
no mother
no sister
just me
i made that choice in a child's mind
not knowing
my mother slowly packed up the house
everyday something was gone and into a box
this went on for a week or so
and then the yellow Ryder truck arrived
my life was getting packed away
I stood there watching
my mother asked me once more
move
or
stay
I smirked and said stay
she and my sister climbed into the yellow Ryder truck
they waved
and then they drove off
I stood there and watched them
until the yellow Ryder truck could been seen no more
I stood in that spot in front 23416 Ridgeway
for what seemed like days
waiting
hoping
praying
crying
begging the gods
to bring them back
i thought she was going to turn around
i thought she was coming back
i thought it was a joke
i thought it was a form of tough love
i thought and i thought
and the yellow Ryder truck never came back
the realization of what just happened
the realization that my life was a backpack and a pillow
the realization i was alone
the realization i had no where to go
fifteen
scared
empty
hopeless
hollow
I walked slowly down Ridgeway
and was consumed by the insanity of the streets
choices made by a child
forever to haunt my dreams
The yellow Ryder truck
the one that drove everything i knew away
I'm way older now
and have been through so much in these many years
and realizing a lot more about that day
my mother left me
without regret
never looking back
she left me with a pillow and a backpack
not even one dollar
she didn't care if i ate
she didn't care if i died
now I won't speak to her
and she wants to know why
