Embracing the Journey

- Embracing the Journey -

The colors of the evening sky, at dusk…
Become more splendid, growing sublime.
We cherish it more, the more we gaze…
And so we look, because look, we must.
The clouds above, beyond count of time,
Do not know the meaning of passing days.
Yet all days pass, like smoke on the wind,
Blown as ashes are, from a fading blaze…
And where they go, we can never follow.
The gods, this glimpse of glory, oft send…
When twilight descends, senses to amaze.
Yet this too must fade, upon the morrow!
When our time passes, do we fade thusly?
As flowers do, whilst we recall their glory.

In another era a great lady once thus said:
“Flowers are flowers because they bloom.
People are people, because they strive…
Both know the hour in their soul and head,
When they must vanish lest cometh doom.”
She lived a lot, before her hour did arrive!
Her final act, was to put words into verse,
Writing those words, that I herein related!
Then she took her own life by old custom.
But souls do not vanish from the universe,
When they have deep hunger to be sated!
I met her when she rose again like a storm.
But the age she rose up in, had changed…
To be reborn is often to be thus estranged.

How many deaths did I die, in times past?
Perhaps, like flowers, we can rise anew…
As I am risen long after I was thought lost.
Thus I think of life, in the hopes it will last!
I care not for endings, and all they undo…
Embracing the journey, whatever the cost.
The wheel of existence turns and we exist,
Nothing vanishes forever under Heaven…
Though fleeting is one moment’s pleasure.
Even thus I wish all our joys could persist!
Is that what makes even gods, so human?
This yearning for joy as if it were treasure.
I look at the evening sky as I think of this,
And I count that moment as another bliss.
