Grief & Insomnia ©

Stayed shut away for so long today.
The sunshine wasn't warming me.
I lied down and decided not to feel.
          and that's
                  when I felt it the most.

That nagging fear, that gut-wrenching grief.
The things you'd deny you believe.
The thoughts that eat at your sleep.
The dreams you'd rather not dream.
The fury that urges the bleed.

So I lie awake and dream

                  of sleep.
