cute but let me ask u...u call this a poem?

well I did when I wrote it in 1983, but I was young and not much of a poet, so no, I don't really think of it as a poem, more of a song lyric with no music.  
One of the reasons I waited to post this here is because I knew it wasn't up to my usual standards, which is why I wasn't asking for critical comments. What's the point in criticizing a poem I wrote nearly 30 years ago? JJ

There are so many definitons of poetry as there are poets. I think this is a lovely poem with a Lovely Lady in mind! :-)

LMAO, I wonder if she is so lovely now??? I was 20 and she was 17. There is an Elton John song, "Between 17 and 20" that I used to love and although this poem has no similarity to it, I always think of it when I read this. To me it is not so important that a poem is some great masterpiece of artistry, what matters to me is if it came from the heart and expresses the emotions of the moment. I had plenty of criticism from my brother and friends back in the 80's, so whatever anyone says about these old poems/songs or whatever they are, I carry them in my heart and I love them no matter how good or bad they may be in the eyes of others. I wouldn't change them now, they are a piece of my history and I can't go back and change who I was, so my words should stay as they were when I wrote them. I have grown since then and I think my poetry now reflects that, so if nothing , these old stanzas represent the foundation of what I have become. I think it might help some younger poets to read these and realize that like me, they will improve their writing skills and style as time goes by. If someone thinks this poem sucks, maybe it does. I was in the early stages of writing and no one was encouraging me or offering me any constructive criticism. I was completely on my own and I think I have done a pretty fucking great job of developing as a writer! lol
