I like that Song

"I am less than the song I am singing
I am more than I thought I could be
Spent some time as a child in day dreaming
As a young one I sailed on the sea"

First lesson that was learned
Was about tolerance
Summer days spent in camp
All creeds, colors, backgrounds
Songs from the global village to delight
ever rascally Los Angeles kids

"So come stand by my side where I am going
Take my hand if I stumble to fall
It's the strength that you share when your growing
That gives me what I need most of all"

Second lesson learned as a teen
That girls weren't yucky beings
Who knew nothing about sports
Wendy introduced "the kiss"
And probably always will be
At the top of my list

"Different minds, different ways
Different reasons to believe
Some far journeys we have taken
Some sweet dreams we've had to leave"

Summers change to the courts and ballfields
John Wooden was god like to me
Didn't know my dad was his friend
So much in awe when confronted with that reality

One Laker player who was close to a hero
Jamaal Wilkes, called "Silky" with his shot
Most humble of any player on the planet
Was his gentle grace that I always sought

Aside from the parents the other influence
I can't forget
Was my coach and also friend, Coach Taylor
Will be forever in his debt
Being a Special Education instructor
Sparked my desire to go in the field
The masters is all because of him

The common link is they put others
Before themselves
Virtues never out of date
In spite of the fever for more dollars
My eyes say they will always be great

"And I want you to be happy
And I hope you always will
Or I cannot rest easy
Till all your dreams are real"
