men [in love]
Love is a strong word
they had warned me
robust hard hitting overhyped
the worst kind of hyperbole
they had also told me
to use it wisely on people
for this depraved world was a world deprived
that needed-wanted-craved love
more than anything else
So I did
I loved everyone
sans cages of association
without much hope of anything in return
that way
I always got memorable surprises
until I dropped my act [of misplaced charity, romanticized banality]
and fell from grace
thru a colourless sky with Jet engine clouds
it's a funny feeling when your tears freeze
for you smile shedding tiny pearls
not once did I lose sight of
the tiny blue rectangles of uniformly lit pools
amidst pale grays and whites of double storeyed beach side condos
I fell headlong alone and
that was that
I was thirsty standing near the ocean
unable to drink a drop
with small burnt stumps on my shoulders
where there used to wings
I felt lost sapped powerless
very distanced and existential
in the best sense of the word
and my toes seemed to sink deeper
curling digging conditioned
I was finally a man in love
needy greedy selfish whiny wasted
wrought wronged wrung
and in the making
a miserable drunk who would
listen to Ella read Hank and puke his bitterness
into clogged toilets
without a job or life or a sense of anything
seemingly going right
damn four lettered atrocity
