reading lines on hands
i'm not one for crystal balls or tarot cards
but i do believe in the reading of palms
read 'em like a history book and a newspaper
but you can trust them to be
unbiased and untainted by Deception's lips
for Deception will tell you i have done much
but when you read my hands
you will find the story is young;
so few lines written
read the palms and fingertips covered in calluses
and filled with indentations of musical instrumentation
but lines of music seem the only lines worth reading
i have other lines, but you may not get their meaning
for they are faint lines, as if etched in pencil
unclear ideas that haven't been delved into
enough to write in permanent ink
like the outer lines on edge of the palm
developed by love and hand holding
no definite lines worked out
that branch from the wrist
and criss-cross up to the thumb
created by hard labor, the skin is soft
and its pale, barely aged by sun
and through this faint cover
you can read the blue lines of Anglo-Saxon predecessors
the lines may not say much
but they say the truth
that these hands have been writing for 21 years
about the same character
and she is still a stranger
going back, observing the present
some of these lines are impossible
how can they be written
those lines that, when i see them,
i shut my eyes in an attempt to erase
cause they're so disgusting and repulsive
in denial about the beautiful lines
i feel they misrepresent because
i have never believed a single line to be,
to mean all that much, much less be beautiful
they are all just lines
a story
about a character i still don't understand
but i do believe in the reading of palms
read 'em like a history book and a newspaper
