Happy Born Day
Letter to my first
I unleashed you
into the world
with the snip of a natal chord
With tenacity we fell
in love at first sight
even then I knew this world
thru me was yours
Three played together
as I watched you
grow strong
from a feeble introduction
To hold your head high
looking up to me
a child-father
no prerequisite nor question
Seems I did the teaching
but truth is
I learned myself
in sacrifice thru you
Re-lived from first step
to remove training wheels
onto first dropoff
at preschool
My second shadow
I was faithfully there
before the drop
of a phone call
We hung at Disney parks
onto Wrestling match
goofy
to cheer brawls
What’s done in dark
let it thrive there
ain’t no stopping
our family bond
You grew a man
from planted soil
to be myself
bested respawn
So to celebrate
the birth of you
a young Prince
branched in my legacy tree
I salute you King
you the truth walking
not faked to make
from what eyes see
Grins from a father
reaping his garden sowed
full of seed
onto iron honor
That’s blessed from me
passed to broad shoulders
of a soldier
as God’s armor
I unleashed you
into the world
with the snip of a natal chord
With tenacity we fell
in love at first sight
even then I knew this world
thru me was yours
Three played together
as I watched you

from a feeble introduction
