Broken Bricks

We should live our lives asking for nothing,
taking what is freely given
with thankfulness and gratitude.
Instead, we choose to focus on the ones
who should give, but don't.
And so, we end up frustrated and irritated,
sleeping with the enemy,
mad at the world.

Author's Note
I heard someone say they read a poem that talked about how we build a house with bricks from our family and how we were raised. Some bricks are perfect, others are broken. And when we meet someone, we want them to leave everything and come to live in the house we've built. However, we fail to realize that they have also built a house from the way they were raised. It is a recipe for conflict. Expectations are preconceived resentments. Relationships are hard. People don't always act as they should, including myself.
