I'm an African American
I'm an African American/
I'm an African American that had a dream/ that I can/ overcome/ the war that has begun from the outside and from within/ being oppressed, ridiculed and rejected/ due to the color of skin/ the only thing that has changed/ is that I'm no longer in visable chains/ and people smile and call me "friend"/however the notion of never being equal will never end/
I'm an African American
I am different in body shape and stature/ even though I'm a victim of being bullied and put on a podium for laughter/ its my culture and body shape that those same people and others strive to duplicate and go after/
I'm an African American
I went from slave and a degenerate/ to teacher/ singer/ preacher/ boxer/ doctor/ soldier/ and president/ once i was opposed from such opportunities, but now people are just hesitant/ but opposition is what I'm use to so I must never relent/ and I stay on my knees and pray for them with hopes they'll repent/

I encourage others to lift every voice/ and still rejoice with your heads held high/ because its when we're one in mindest action and voice when we can reach the skies/ even though I've gone through so much that caused emotional and physical bruising and me wanting to cry/ there is one that went through that and more and continued to love me to the day He died/
I'm that Guy/ I'm that Woman/ I'm that neighbor/ I'm that Sameritan/I'm that fighter/ I'm that lover/ I'm that motivator/ I'm that culture builder/ I'm that Athlete/ I'm that Soldier/ I'm that singer/ I'm that dancer/ I'm that Writer/ I'm that teacher/ I'm that Preacher/ I'm that friend

You're a human being that's it.
All the other stuff is baggage from the time mankind had brains like every other animal.Brains that needed to identify and eliminate threats to their territory, their food security.
There is no problem acknowledging and respecting our differences but that's easy for me to say from my white middle class background.
The best way ignorant arseholes, can understand their own unconscious bias is to spend sometime in each other's company and ask the difficult question.
