I can't tell you it's love

You call me
looking for answers
but wanting reassurances
that your heart beats the right way
and that your boyfriend
isn't a manipulative
semi-violent fucktard
unable to manage his insecurities

I tell you our childhoods
make us colourblind
and that for all the good green days
the red shine brighter
than your eyes (and heart)
can see

I would tell you
you're codependent
but you already know that
and it would make me a hypocrite

There are too many reasons
we stay when we should leave
too many reasons we settle
for something smaller
than our lives deserve

I give you advice you won't take
and you pretend like you'll think about it
when you only called me cause you needed
to talk to someone who cares
before you close the door
on your worries and go back
to jealousy and broken doors
and sex so good
you don't know how to live
without it
