Step out
Arise sleeper and take up your plow.
Prepare your harnesses and oil your tack.
The ground has had its sabbath rest and is become disquieted.
Remove the rocks and rubble, burn the weeds and stubble.
Strike the fallow ground and don't relent.
Dig in and rip complacency away.
From sunrise until darkness covers the land.
The trumpet speaks, the time is right,
The earth rumbles in anticipation.
The sowers are holding the seed
waiting, watching, watching, hoping for broken ground.
The husbandmen and shepherds bounce from foot to foot
eager for the sowers to finish and give them
the chance to weed, water and fertilize.
Even the reapers are gathering, solemn and thoughtful
awaiting their call in silence.
The latter is greater than the former.
The great crowd looks across the approaching wave
with bated breath.
