Sometimes I wish I was invisible
Far away hidden from the view
Of those to whom I seem so visible
Those who prey on the sensitive and make you ashamed of being you

I try to make myself small
So as not to get their attention
But their cruelty always comes to call
No insecurity, no fault or flaw they won’t mention

Their words are like dementors draining the soul out of me
Too this, too that, taking me to task
Would they feel better if I ceased to be
All these people for whose opinion I didn’t ask

Betrayal always comes from those you love
They hurt you then blame you for changing
Going deep down inside yourself to hide from those above
Till you can’t express the numbness that is raging

Just let me be - you with your multiple faces
I just want to be free to be myself
Silly little me who still gets excited over magic and new places
