Bullied Girl
They knock her glasses...
off her face and step on them!
Crunch! Broken!
They trip her and kick...
her books down the hall!
Fatty tripped on her two left feet!
They push her into a bathroom stall...
and take her skirt and panties.
Snap! Photo!
She screams and cries...
until the nurse gets her pants to wear!
She hates this school!
They mock the pants...
It's a boy! Ugly enough.
"Ugly. Ugly." They chant.
"She wants to be a boy!
She has a tiny penis!
"I took a photo in the girl's bathroom!"
It's only noon...lunchtime...
"It's too fat to eat!"
Her food is taken...
...mashed potatoes put in her hair.
The bullies eat the rest!
She's hungry...little food at home.
Back to the nurse...cleaned up!
The nurse takes her to the office.
"Liar! Liar!" says...
...the disbelieving principal -
"THAT STUFF DOESN'T HAPPEN HERE!"
"This is your 2nd week!
Are you looking for attention? Stop lying!
I'll call your mother!
This is a good school!
I can suspend you!"
The shaking girl hides her anger!
Last class of the day!
The bullies block the bathroom.
A PUNCH TO THE BELLY!!!
She pees the school's pants!
Bus driver says, "Walk home, pee pants."
She walks home knowing what to expect!
Her mother is angry! Always!
That was her only skirt...gone!
Slap. Punch. Mother enjoys it!
She tells herself not to cry!
But she crys most of the night!
Morning comes. No school uniform!
She puts on her camos. Today...
will be a better day. The bus arrives...
she's already done 2 bad things.
Something special is in her backpack!!!
It's a quick ride to school.
She is so fucking excited!!!
She's last off the bus. BANG!
The driver's head explodes!
No one knows what that noise was!
Quickly into the school.
The three bullies are in the bathroom.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The bathroom stinks of blood and waste.
Next stop...the office! BANG!
BANG! The principal dies slowly...
...like her mother - both guilty!
She saved one for herself! BANG!
A final thought: they should have listened.
Early reports from the school say
that there are six fatalities, including
the female shooter who may have
identified as male. Her mother, shot
twice earlier...is expected to survive!
We will continue to follow this story...

And that’s how it goes. Another day in the life of a neglected and abused kid who couldn’t take another day.
As a planet, we’re so desensitized to this now it’s sickening. So the cycle will continue and people will go about their day. And this poem will become just another poem about another kid when it’s the nightmare life of too many kids and too many people who look the other way.
I am glad you post these though, Paula. You’re a fantastic writer. It’s not lost on me that most are based on your life. I appreciate you.

Children see cruelty and think that is the behavior that is acceptable, or they are used to getting there way so they do it "just too". The adults, well I have met school nurses who do not believe what children say no matter what. they can have it right there in front of their face and still...
there should be some kind of criteria for being a parent. Like you have to pass a course first and after the child is born you have to take refreshers to be able to keep them.
If I say this poem did not cause me to get angry and upset at the same time I would be lying. You express your work very well

Thank you. It can go either way. A child abused at home can be the bully at school as a power move. Or they can put up with it because they have always been a victim. That is the same with alcohol abuse. A child can either swear off it or copy the behavior. They have told me that the same gene that causes bi-polar also makes you predisposed to alcoholism and drug abuse. My mother was all three. Couple that with having been abused - it gets carried on. Unfortunately I know.
