Blow Out The Candles

As birthdays go
This is one is not so bad
A smile on my face
My health
My family
New friends
New ventures etc...

There are thoughts hidden
behind the smile
Like it's cold outside
are people warm?
Do they have food?
There is a fire raging.
How are they?
There are wars all over
outside and internally
Will we make it as a people?

Blowing out these candles
I smile and feel the tracks of tears
of both joy and grief

I made a wish
Now, if this one comes true
we will all be....safe
