Unwanted Double Date

Another year, the calendar turns,
Still silent, where your laughter learns
To echo in the empty air.
Today, a birthday,oh, the joy you'd share,
A happy day, you're two...bright new start,
But grief still tightly, clenches to my heart.

December eighth, a dreaded double date,
Your birth and your death, a cruel, harsh fate.
A life unborn, a future grim,
A world you never entered in.
No childhood joys, no sunlit days,
Just shadowed years, and the tear-filled haze.

My heart, a bird with broken wings,
Still flutters at the smallest of things:
A butterfly, what a fleeting sight,
A fragile hope in our fading light.
Is it your soul, perhaps, a gentle sign?
A whisper of peace, a love divine?

So, I look to the skies, a vast, grey sea,
And whisper your name into the gentle breeze,
That wind might carry my love so deep,
To where you softly lie asleep.
To lose a loved one, pain untold,
But losing you, a story too cold,
A baby's life, forever gone,
A grief that breaks the heart at every dawn.
