Loosing The Light
Cracks in the armor start to appear
How long before they figure it out?
Surely someone will sense the fear
That lingers behind this self-doubt
Falling fast into this desperate abyss
When was the last time it was silent?
The punchline was a swing and a miss
As a spectator quickly became violent
Flaming tongues searing paper flesh
How long till this soul bares the mark?
These lies are old but the pain is fresh
Loosing the light only leaves the dark

Author's Note
Late night musing. Life's a battle of learning to protect the light, while being influenced by the dark. Then again what do I know. I'm just a humble poet. Appreciate you.

Without protecting the light, were faced with blinding lies & deceit. Great idea and a powerful message of the ongoing issues we all face here. Small problems and the larger ones, the majority lie.

We are all of us equal parts light & dark. It's how we see textures & shapes around us. The trick is not letting one overtake the other...no small feat. When the light dims it's so hard to boost the flame again. It's like a dance...delicate footing. Another brilliant musing, Damian. I'm taking this one home with me

Realizing lies as darkness takes a synesthetic sensitivity.
Well done, sir, well done!

This is awesome. Base foundation of concrete display. Succinct but assuredly defined in emotion and character. Great mix of rhythm, imagination, direction, form, and heart. The 2nd and 3rd stanzas come to life with the excitement of the poem, at least to me. I'm not going to tell you anything here that you don't know, so I'll just say thanks for taking the time to write and share in such inspiration.

"These lies are old but the pain is fresh" > this line hits home.
You really went deep with this one, my friend. There's no light without darkness, though sometimes I wish the dark would back off, even if it's just for a while. Love the Jim Morrison quote, in fact: it's my favorite 🖤
