Nobody Died Today

nobody died today so I
could have another meal
no birds were caged or throats were cut,
what is not seen is real

brutality and cruelty
kids taken from their mothers,
the horrors of the slaughterhouse
are not for animal lovers -

nobody died today so I
could steal and wear their skins
no feathers were plucked, no one was trucked
it's now time we begin

to get rid of the fear and panic
which becomes us every time
we ignore the pain and suffering
simply because it's not mine -

nobody died today so I
could have another meal,
for all the victims of that trade
