Image for the poem rain

rain

my darkness grows and my flicker fades
it is cruelty, I hold you still
deep within my soul your dawn has rain
lingering behind my tapestry of hurt

with intricate designs of despair
the colors rich and brutal
sewn of emotional scars and blood
dreams that didn't work out

echoes of your voice, when you still loved me
then the finality of goodbye
you left me behind

my soul in the ashes
wept uncontrollably, because I couldn't escape the pain
your phantom haunt, and no other would do in your place

my sorrow fully understood
my fears realized
life goes on for some
but not for me

piecing together my fractured heart
in the desolate dark
damning me further into solitude

my soul won't ever be vulnerable again
I can't mend the rift you left me with
cold understanding, no one can heal
my denial of things won't allow
what is so obvious to some, isn;t to me

somewhere in time I shut down to reality
preferring dreams to fact
