on a rainy day
it was comfortably warm
under the awning
outside the cafe.
i leaned on my elbow
and stared down
at the graceful water circles
that went out in short waves.
i thought of the village
and kerouac, ginsburg.
chet baker sang
my funny valentine
on the outside speakers.
i wondered
if by chance
the words were written
on a quiet rainy day
like this one.
I took it all in
knowing a painter
searching for that perfect scene
was missing out.
