Disconnected
From the mother
Independent
Yet dependent
Of her warmth
And protection
The day of birth arrives
The womb
Is opened from within
As the young face the sky
Whilst walking on eggshells
Mouths gaping open
Seemingly in astonishment
Awaiting their moments
For food
Then eventually take wing
And fly!
