A Black Star

Lo, in the shadowed eaves of night’s dark keep
Where no sun’s solace nor moon doth creep
A black star hangs, unblinking, cursed
Its baleful gaze o’ th’ heavens reversed

Yon lightless orb, a wound in the firmament
Doth whisper foul in tongues unsent
A hollow hymn, the void’s decree
It singeth not life, but entropy

Hark, the wailing wind doth call
Through barren wood and ruined hall
The stones weep blood, the roots do writhe
As life is scourged by death alive

The air is thick with dread's foul breath
Each mote a shard of creeping death
Beasts do cower, their eyes turned blind
As eldritch whispers shatter the mind

Oh wretched star, thy fell descent
Hath torn asunder the firmament
The earth doth quake, the seas do boil
All things undone by thy black toil

Flee, thou wanderer, from this accursed light
For none escape its endless blight
’Tis not the end, but the unmaking begun
A starless void where once was sun
