Gun Smoke and Sabre's Shine

Half a league, half a league
Half a league onward
Into the smoke and flame
Marched the Six Hundred
"Forward, my Guard!" he said
With sun on each bayonet
On through the mist they sped
Led by Napoleon

Stormed at by shot and shell
Rising where heroes fell
Into the jaws of hell
Charged his Grand Army
Onward they surged as one
Flanking the morning sun
Russian and Austrian line
Crumbling beneath them

Boldly they charged ahead
Steel met with fire and lead
Grim on the frozen plain
Honor and glory bled.
Flanked by the Emperor’s gaze
No man could halt their blaze
All the world stood amazed
At their fierce courage

Cannon to right of them
Cannon to left of them
Thunder and fire around
Yet they stood fast, unbound
Driving the foe to ground
In victory’s thunder
Glory and Empire gained
History's name retained
Honor the fearless souls
Noble Six Hundred
