Learning To Love
There’s a fork in the road up ahead
Can’t obtain wisdom without mileage
Been searching for a common thread
Knowing I’ll face the hanging judge
Time apparently doesn’t heal all scars
Each passing year guilt grows heavy
Misery is shared inside crowded bars
Until frustration overwhelms the levee
Growing old brings the slow decline
Don’t be pondering over choices made
Sitting here waiting to receive a sign
Learning to love for a debt already paid
Can’t obtain wisdom without mileage
Been searching for a common thread
Knowing I’ll face the hanging judge
Time apparently doesn’t heal all scars
Each passing year guilt grows heavy
Misery is shared inside crowded bars
Until frustration overwhelms the levee
Growing old brings the slow decline
Don’t be pondering over choices made
Sitting here waiting to receive a sign
Learning to love for a debt already paid
Author's Note
Late night musing. Listening to music affects my style when I write. This has a Neil Young vibe, I'm sure. Appreciate you.

The choices we have to make shape our minds and souls, relying on past experience and emotions.
Strong work Damian.

i played drums in bars for 40 years
saw plenty of misery and felt my own
i found life more pleasant getting away from bars

Thanks so much for reading and your stellar commentary, Tim. I hear you there, I'm sure there are things you can't unsee from behind the drum kit after 40 years. I'd definitely say it's enhanced your mood getting away. Appreciate you.

Fantastic. The first stanza stuck out to me in general. The way you kind of skim through a life-lesson of direction yet maintain such brevity and boldness of metaphor and morality in your lines, shows that you're a seasoned writer. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, heh, so good job. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, brother. I'm seasoned for sure, but finally feel like I'm truly becoming the writer I want to be. Sobriety and getting to know myself have helped a lot. But most of all realizing my gifts were given to me by God. Any success I have as a writer is because of him. He deserves the Glory. He's always collaborating with me. Honored to make your RL. Appreciate you.
