I don't want fireflies in jars � �
to entertain me for hours; �
beautifying my night �
with their sparkling light, �
Dispelling darkness for me �
while their souls aren't free; � �
bringing in magical dreams �
through their soft soothing beams.
These pretty luminous things
are meant to measure world
with their wings... �

I myself have never been interested in catching them. They're merely commuters through some air-like highway that just happens to go through my yard. lol

I think your words go deeper than just fireflies. I think your empathy reveals the same sentiments for human kind. We as poets often have a similar trait.

Well, yes.... I don't like anything to be kept caged....even humans should be free.....each n every living thing has a soul n its own identity....no one has the right to enslave anyone in anyway... physically, emotionally or psychologically just to make their own world beautiful
